Downspout Flushing: Confirm It Before You Book

Is it included or an extra?

Ask this first, of any company, in plain words: does the price include clearing and flushing every downspout? If the answer is yes, ask how the pipe is confirmed open. A common method is to run water from the top and watch the outlet.

If the answer is no, ask what it adds. A company may charge per downspout, so a house with six of them costs more than one with two. We settle the downspouts on the quote call, so you know before the day.

Either answer is fine. A clear one is what you are looking for.

What to have ready

A few details speed up the quote and keep the visit on track.

• How many downspouts the house has, if you know
• Whether any run into buried pipes instead of discharging on the surface
• Which ones overflow or stay wet after rain
• Whether extensions or splash blocks are in place

Buried lines deserve a flag. We can flush from the top, but a line that is crushed or tied into a drain is a different kind of problem, and we will say so plainly.
